TWIG Protector Ex and TWIG Protector Pro Ex are intrinsically safe lone worker alarms requiring special attention to safety requirements in device use. This posting is published to remind you of important safety improvements to TWIG Ex devices.
TWIG Protector Ex and TWIG Protector Pro Ex personal alarms of device type TUP92EU, in production since 2017, are intrinsically safe dust and gas compliant 3G/GSM/GNSS lone worker alarms in compliance with the essential requirements of Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU.
Use
Both TWIG Ex personal alarms are designed for application in areas with an increased risk of explosion in accordance with directive 1999/92/EC (ATEX 137) and 2014/34/EU. With TWIG Ex TUP92EU devices it is allowed to use only approved TWIG Ex accessories. The maximal usage temperature for TWIG Ex personal alarm devices is +40°C. Only Ex approved carrying case can be used inside Ex area not to deteriorate the device surface resistance.
Device configuration
TWIG Protector Pro Ex and TWIG Protector Ex of device type TUP92EU are configurable both remotely with TWIG Point Remote Configurator cloud service and locally with Ex USB cable connected to PC and TWIG Configurator program. Only TWIG Ex USB cable (sales code ACO) of device type (FME92EU) is allowed for programming TWIG Ex devices of device type TUP92EU.
- The new TWIG Ex USB cable ACO is recommended for use also with TWIG Ex Protector devices of earlier device types TCP90EU and TGP81EU.
Charging
The device battery must not be charged below °0 or above +45 °C. The new Ex devices of device type TUP92EU can only be charged with TWIG Ex charger (sales codes ACE-E, ACE-A, ACE-U) of device type FME92EU.
- It is recommended to use the new TWIG Ex charger ACE also with TWIG Protector Ex devices of earlier device types TCP90EU and TGP90EU to improve their secure use.
The user of the device is fully responsible for ensuring that the TWIG Ex personal alarms are used in explosive atmospheres in accordance with the applicable regulations. TWIG Protector Pro Ex and TWIG Protector Ex quick guides have been updated with corrections to usage temperature and directives.
